The focus of this interactive workshop is to enhance understanding of how to guide children’s behaviour positively and effectively.
Objectives

Outline
Session 1: Overview of Children’s Behaviours
Activities and discussions will focus on:
- The reasons for children’s behaviours
- Identifying how child management practices influence behaviours
- Identifying ages and stages of learning to control behaviours
- Identifying how temperament affects behaviour
- Typical challenging behaviours
- Recognizing early signs of an onset of challenging behaviours
- Identifying when adults should step in and when to ignore challenging behaviours
Session 2: Overview of Effects of the Learning Environment and Adult Role
- Identifying how organization of the environment influences behaviour
- Developing strategies for setting up the learning environment to mitigate challenging behaviours
- Seven steps to guiding behaviours effectively
- Identifying the adult role step 1 -4
Session 3: Effective Strategies to Guide Behaviour Effectively
- Seven steps to guiding behaviour effectively
- Developing strategies to gain sustainable results – Step 5 to 7
- Negotiating with Children
- Negotiations defined
- Identifying how to negotiate with children of different ages
- Developing strategies to negotiate with children
- Strategies to avoid
Trainer’s Profile
Dr. Crowther has experience in teaching in the early years – early childhood settings, elementary schools, universities, and colleges. She has presented at numerous childcare conferences both nationally and internationally.
Experiences in guiding children’s behaviours effectively include working with families, early childhood educators and teachers to effectively develop strategies to mitigate behaviour challenges and in developing and teaching positive behaviour guidance courses.
Dr. Crowther has worked in a number of settings that encourage positive social behaviour approaches to learning. She has published articles in a variety of journals and has completed eleven textbooks in the early years, and a number of children’s books that include photographs of children in a variety of international play settings.
Methodology
This workshop provides strategies to guide children’s behaviour positively and effectively and to foster greater understanding and practice of how to create positive social learning environments.

Target Audience
This workshop is designed for all teachers and other adults who work in early years settings – early childhood and early primary grades.
